Amanda provides leadership to the team and works with the Chairman and the Board on delivering the strategic plan. As CEO she oversees all areas and supports many of the technical committees. She manages all of BD’s commercial arrangements, budgets and financial bids, as well as the relationships with key partners such as the BEF, the FEI and government agencies. She ensures the office and regions run smoothly and provides the necessary services to meet the needs of members.

Jo has worked in many areas of BD and now leads the Education & Development team managing the eight Regional Development Officers and the Education & Development Officer, overseeing all training and events such as the Judges Seminar, National Convention and FEI training courses.

Jo also heads up the BD volunteers and will be lead contact for the winter and national dressage championships.

She also works with Amanda to represent BD and manage the commercial portfolio, such as insurance, funding and data protection.

Angela has the task of dealing with the inordinate amount of paperwork generated by all the committee meetings, preparing agendas and taking minutes, as well as performing the standard secretarial roles of keeping the CEO’s diary and fielding all calls.

Stacey and Louise process the membership applications and renewals of BD’s 12,000 members every year, entering the details on computer and keeping an up-to-date record of all members.

They are also in charge of music membership and arrange this membership for non-BD members who compete in freestyle tests, so they don’t break the law when they play their music in public.

Stacey and Louise also deal with more than 10,000 horse registrations a year and sort the downgrading and assessments of horses and horse passports.

BD holds detailed records of each registered horse, including its competition results, height, age, colour, etc. As a member, you can access your horse’s details online by clicking Results and you can also view other horses’ competition results free of charge.

Paul heads the BD Sports Team and is responsible for managing the sport nationally as well as developing new initiatives to increase participation in affiliated Dressage.

He is responsible for rules, fixtures, competition venues, judges, the international department (Senior and Para), discipline, results and qualifications.

Claire works closely with the Education & Development Manager Jo Brown to help organise events such as the National Convention and the Judges seminar. 

In her role Claire liaises with the Training Committee to help develop the UKCC Courses, Apprenticeship scheme and the Trainers database. Claire also deal with stewards and volunteers.

Amy deals with the invitations from international para shows and organises trips abroad for para competitors, sorting their travel arrangements and documents.

The job involves liaising with the selectors to produce selection policies and assist in the organisation of any events, such as the para national convention.

Lisa Panto and Katrina Smith look after nearly 1,000 judges, keeping their records, sorting out applications to become a trainee judge, judge training, testing, seminars and any judging problems.

Office Manager, BYRDS &

Under-21 International

Karen is the longest-serving member of staff. She looks after riders up to 25 yrs of age with the assistance of Ann and Sharon. This includes Squad Training for Ponies, Juniors and Young Riders and teams for international competitions, BYRDS Inter-Regional Squad competition. Karen is the Lead Child Protection Welfare Officer for British Dressage and Office Manager.

BYRDS Assistants

Sharon and Ann job share with Sharon working Monday – Wednesday and Ann Thursday and Friday. Sharon and Ann work closely with Karen Ryder looking after BYRDS riders up to 25 years old. They particularly help administer the Young Professionals Award and Pony Squad Training, along with assisting Karen with the teams for International Competitions and the huge range of other BYRDS activities.
 

Annette manages the competition calendar, putting together the Show schedules for nearly 2,000 days of competition a year and liaising with show organisers. Annette does not run any shows, so please send your entries to the relevant show organiser, not the BD office.

Winnie deals with all journalists’ enquiries, keeps local and national press up to date about BD news and generally promotes the sport. She writes and updates rider biographies for international shows, is in charge of the BD trade stand, members’ marquee, banners, etc, places advertising in the national press for key events and is involved with British Dressage magazine and this website.

Jo co-ordinates the staffing of the BD stand and transports it to events, assists with promoting championships and area festivals and deals with press enquiries. Jo administers press accreditation and works in the press office at championships, places ticket giveaways in magazines and deals with sponsrship contracts. She is also involved in the production of BD magazine and proof reading.

Victoria oversees the editorial content of this website, keeps it updated and sources the news stories. She also works with the marketing team as a graphic designer and media writer, producing everything from outdoor banners to magazine adverts and writing articles and press releases for print and web distribution. Victoria manages BD’s presence on social networking sites and works with the marketing team generally promoting the sport.

As grading officer, Charlene enters all the show results from the 2,000 days of competition held in Britain every year on a database. This information is available online in the Results section of this website, with a "Q" next to a rider's name indicating they have qualified. It is Charlene who sends you a letter when you have qualified, explaining what you need to do next.

Charlene also ensures the relevant show organisers are provided with details of competitors who have qualified for their shows.The grading officer also allocates the wild cards for the national and winter championships. These are extra places allocated to riders who have not gone through to the finals because they are competing in regions where the standard of competition is particularly high.

Harriet helps Grading Officer Charlene to keep on top of her enormous workload. Harriet collates results received in the office and enters them in the system. She also responds to queries and informs the Grading Officer of any discrepancies or errors. Harriet sends out update cards monthy and works with Charlene to ensure all deadlines are met.

Angie and finance officer Jean Swidryk sort BD’s accounts: the daily collating and banking of all income, raising invoices and making payments, paying salaries and keeping records from which the annual audited accounts are prepared.

Polly works part-time and deals with the purchase Ledger and assisting within the accounts department

Suzanne Akehurst works full-time and deals with assisting the accounts department, and processing orders via the online shop and telephone. 

Pamela Mobbs works part-time as an order assistant, and deals with all orders via the online shop, and telephone.

There are eight regional development officers (RDOs) on the payroll based in their own regions. They organise affordable clinics and training days for all members at all levels, as well as judge training, working closely with the fixtures officer.
