Plaiting question

Hello, I am due to do my 1st affiliated test on a class ticket. BUT I have an Arab which I also show so has quite a long mane. Any tips for how to plait this up or not?

RE: Plaiting question

Leave it loose unless you want to spend many hours with the fancy lace plait look!!
Just add some extra oil, gel, or mane and tail conditioner so it stays reasonably flat.

RE: Plaiting question

If you mean the kind of criss cross weave look it is really simple and takes a lot less time that normal plaiting..... I used to do it for my friend on her section D - he looked fab ! =] x

RE: Plaiting question

You can actually plait a full arab mane along the crest without being obvious like the loose weaved plait. If you google search arab plaits I am sure there are sites that show you how to do it.

RE: Plaiting question

It is correct to do the arab plait start at the poll start to plait picking up the hair as you pait down and finish with a long plait at the shoulders, fasten it properly otherwise the whole thing will unravel. Good luck = Hope you can keep the head down in the test - I couldn't!!

RE: Plaiting question

my friend has an arab that she shows and does dressage on, and she plaits like a normal horse, even though she has really long mane!
if you want to do that you need to make the sections of mane quite wide, dont try and do lots of skinny plaits close together.
Dont't do the plaits really tight, so that when you roll them, you can push them away from you into the base of the plait, make the whole plait look like it is standing higher up. (sorry i cant explain what i mean very well, would have to demonstrate!
But it gives the illusion that your horses neck is a bit bigger on top! can add an extra 2 inches of topline - works a treat!

RE: Plaiting question

A running plait as described above is really easy and looks smart. Used to do it on my purebred and I'm as cack handed as they come, used to take about 5 minutes

RE: Plaiting question

with the spanish stallions i do either the 'lattice' as its really good for one with the thick mane or the running plait that runs also the crest. Both look lovely and help enhance the picture.
leaving it down looks awaful.
I was dissapointed to see quite a few horses at Addington without being plaited.
Think it looks like you dont have an attension to detail and is a bit if a lack of respect.

RE: Plaiting question

Makes not a blind bit of difference to the judge.

If it makes you feel better, then do it.

If its going to add to the stress, then dont.

There are no marks for turn out in dressage and the judge will not be offended in any way.

Good Luck!

RE: Plaiting question

Thanks for this, I will have a practice at home and see which works best, I have no idea on how to do a lattice so I think will go for the running plait or possibly have a go at normal plaits as his mane is not overly thick.
