Some friends are just off to Wicklow to take part in the Friendly International competition - the cost of the diesel is going to be horrendous - Is anyone else finding it hard to cover the cost of just going out to their local competitions? Reply to this message Report this as inappropriate |

RE: Diesel costs
Yes.... and to go to the nearest school as I don't have one. Plus £20 on the cost of a training session just to get there and back. It now costs £5 just to get to the nearest shop for a loaf of bread...ahh the joys of living in the country!!!!! Reply to this message Report this as inappropriate |

RE: Diesel costs
Hi Lorien Perhaps you will have to combine everything and do it on the same day - eg training - competing and buying bread? On the other 6 days you will then work from dawn to dusk to pay for your day out. New Labour - Great Britain. Reply to this message Report this as inappropriate |

RE: Diesel costs
Yes, afraid so. I live on the East Coast and have to travel 2 to 2 1/2 hours ea way to compete, 1hr ea way just for a lesson, hence at today's cost of fuel, I can only afford to compete once a month and a lesson once or twice a month. With the qualification rules as they are now, I don't have much chance at all in qualifying and am seriously considering giving up affiliated dressage as there is nothing to aim at. RE: Diesel costs
Maybe you are suffering from what I find - as I fill up the lorry and the £ £ £ keep ticking up you are too engaged holding the nozzle to be able to go round the other side and catch the fellow draining it out as fast as you put it in! That's what it feels like anyway.... Reply to this message Report this as inappropriate |

Can't afford to chase qualifiers, so did 4 tests, 2 elementry and 2 medium and will use the score sheets to go to the area festival as it closer than most other competitions. Reply to this message Report this as inappropriate |

RE: Diesel costs
I went to a comp at the weekend, and since it was a 200 mile round trip (needed to get Q sheets for area festivals) i thought i would make a weekend and stay to do both days...the diesel alone was £55, entries £60, then stabling £20, dinner/lunch for me and my 'groom' (sister!) £30...remind me again why we do this sport?? only joking, Im ALWAYS skint but i just love training and competing in BD events! I also love my credit card! Reply to this message Report this as inappropriate |

RE: Diesel costs
Purdi - beware the legal load limit - i have a 3.5 ton which is very frugal on diesel. Payload is 1.2 tonnes - not enough for 2 horses plus tack and people. Reply to this message Report this as inappropriate |
