Quote "I disagree. It isn't all about the money, it's about how hard you are willing to work. Put yourself out there and eventually you will be rewarded, who said making it in dressage is easy? Becoming a good rider is all about experience and dedication. If you believe in yourself then one day it will all pay off." I agree with you in the "long term" and I really mean long term - if you want to make a future out of the sport I think hard work, correct training and application will get you a long way. However, I very much regret that I believe previous posts are correct in that at junior / young rider and probably at pony level too, far too much influence is due to being able to buy the most expensive mount and how much clout parents etc have in the corridors of dressage power rather than recognising, putting forward and supporting the most talented for the teams. What saddens me about this is that some really good prospects for the future will be put off our sport and turn away to other things, while those that have been supported/pushed to "glory" by parents don't go on once it is a matter of supporting themselves, training their own horses and putting the work in - I am sure we can all think of instances. |
