Two German-based British riders were placed at the prestigious and highly competitive 2007 Bundeschampionat in Warendorf, Germany, 29 August-2 September, where the visitors total 35,000.
Susan Pape (pictured riding San Remo) rode the five-year-old Westfalian mare Cayenne W (Carabas x Bismarck) into fifth place in the elementary-level dressage final. She also finished sixth in the medium-level dressage final for six-year-olds with the stallion San Remo (Sandro Hit x Donnerhall).
Portia Manning, who has just turned 18 and trains with the director of training for the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sports Christoph Hess’ son Phillip, was competing at the Bundeschampionat for the first time. She took fourth place with Negro Veneziano in the four-year-old pony stallion final.
Although the British-owned five-year-old stallion Don Ricoss (Don Frederico x Weltmeyer), who is currently based at Gestüt WM in Germany, qualified for the Bundeschampionat for the third year in a row, he did not take part in the final.
