Hickstead Premier League: Anders and Selten HW untouchable

Anders Dahl and Selten HW (pictured) were outstanding at Hickstead Premier League, winning their three small tour classes in emphatic style. Anders and Selten’s show got underway with a personal best of 78.77% in Thursday’s prix st georges qualifier, securing them a place in the Fairfax Prix St Georges Championship at the LeMieux National Dressage Championships in September.

In a class dominated by the boys, Michael Eilberg took the runners-up spot with another exceptional black horse - Der Designer, an eight-year-old son of De Niro. Michael scored an impressive 74.52% on the licensed Hanoverian stallion, on only the horse’s third appearance at the level.

Anders and Selten, his fiancée Fiona Bigwood’s astonishing ten-year-old Sandro Hit gelding, stayed at the top of their game for another prix st georges victory on Friday with 74.25%, and an 81.42% prix st georges freestyle win on Saturday. Bought in 2012 at the Equine Elite auction in the Netherlands, the beautiful gelding described by Anders as ‘the most talented horse I have ever ridden’, is a very exciting future prospect for the British-based Dane.

Anders also came away with a big tour victory, posting 78.33% with Wie Atlantico to win the grand prix freestyle following his 70.52% grand prix fourth. The grand prix was won by Lara Griffith and Andretti H with a personal best score of 73.40%. Lara has forged an awesome partnership with the nineteen-year-old gelding, owned by Wilfried and Ursula Bechtolsheimer, who’s at the top of his game despite his grand age! A delighted Lara took to Facebook to say: “Well the legend that is Andretti H pulled out another brilliant test to get another PB 73.4% and a win in the grand prix”.

The combination of Michael Eilberg and Half Moon Delphi was another to post a personal best score – 76.73% for a resounding win in the grand prix special. Second place went to Lesley Peyton-Gilbert and Woodcroft Garuda K who scored 69.41% - a promising result for a horse who is new to the level.

Hickstead Dressage Masters

The five day competition also saw the finals of the Hickstead Dressage Master League. These championships, with qualifiers all over the country, were the brainchild of Dane Rawlins, and provide a competitive league for riders of all levels. This championship league provides the opportunity for up-and-coming riders to make their mark and gives invaluable experience for them on the big stage. The big scorer of the ’dressage masters’ was Carmarthenshire rider Amy Pett with her British-bred eight-year-old Barbarian T, who scored 75% to win the Hickstead Dressage Masters Preliminary Championship.
