Record number receive grants
A record number of dressage riders have received grants through the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) with 19 students receiving £3,000 each (see list below). The scheme is undergoing major changes this year and the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) is working hard to keep funding for able-bodied riders as well as para riders.

BEF World Class Development Manager Vicki Underwood said: “ It has proved popular as well as successful in that many riders have graduated from TASS to the World Class Development Programme over the years.”

The scheme is designed to support students on recognised educational courses and the most recent graduates to move from TASS to the World Class programme are Keri Bates and para rider Toby Pawson.

The SportsAid funding, which is aimed at a younger age group (12-18 years) than TASS, has awarded six dressage riders and seven para riders grants up to £500.

The TASS award recipients for 2007/8 are:

Katie Bailey, Holly Bates, Melissa Beer, Natalie Bushell, Susannah Coleridge-Smith, Samantha Collins, Megan Daley, Jessica Dunn, Charlotte Fill, Kirsten Fox, Emily Harris, Darcas Lever, Lauren O’Hagan, Alice Oppenheimer, Marianne Rafferty, Amy Sanders, Danielle Steed, Robert Trobridge and Elizabeth Ward-Barnett.

Paras: Phillippa Bishop, Kathryn Gallagher, Bethany Irwin, Kristina Keefe, Ruth MacCarthy, Fiona Maynard, Holly Neill, Ben Rodin and Stephen Wagland.

SportsAid awards went to:

Alexandra Barr, Phillippa Hutton, Olivia Kuropatwa, Gemma Read, Alice Thompson (pictured) and Amy Woodhead.

Paras: Zoe Cain, Charlotte Dargie, Mari Durward-Akhurst, Anna Gill, Lorna Lee, Alex Sutton and Natash Wait.
