Former Talent Spotting winner Becky Moody (pictured) dominated the Northern Winter Finals at Willerby Hill Competition Yard in North Yorkshire, 31 January to 3 February 2008, with three wins on two horses.
Becky rode Julie Lockey’s Fursten Hit, a six-year-old 18.1hh German-bred gelding by Furst Heinrich, to take both the novice and elementary open, both with scores of more than 71%. She then rode another horse owned by Julie, the seven-year-old 17hh German-bred gelding by Weltgeist, Wallenstein, to head the advanced medium open. It was both horses’ biggest success to date.
Becky, who is a professional trainer and rider, said: “Wally is the first horse Julie bought for me to ride two and a half years ago when I didn’t have a young horse of my own. She then bought Fursten Hit 18 months ago in Belgium. I consider myself very lucky to have Julie as a patron; her love of the sport is what drives her to be an owner and now breeder as well.”
It was a successful outing for other members of Becky’s yard. Working pupil Emma Gallagher and Andy Lykegaard won the medium restricted while Becky’s British Dressage apprentice Carly Taylor-Smith rode Onino into second place in the medium open with 70.72%. The winner of the latter class was Beverly Brightman and Don Hill, who also won the advanced medium freestyle.
