2008 CDIO Rotterdam: Brits second, but Lecantos is withdrawn

In the final team showing before Olympic selection, a depleted British team took on the best of the Dutch to finish second in the Nations Cup at CDIO Rotterdam, Holland, 18-22 June 2008.
The grand prix team competition saw Emma Hindle and Lancet achieve the best British score with 70.45% for fifth place individually, just pipping team-mate Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris into sixth (69.54%). Jane Gregory and Lucky Star finished 13th on 65.29%.
Team captain Richard Davison said: “To beat Germany and come second to the Dutch team is a good result. Having said that, neither Laura nor Jane performed to their usual standard; both have been achieving scores of more than 73% and 68% respectively, so there is plenty more to come.”
Britain managed to achieve these results with only three riders following the withdrawal of Carl Hester, whose ride, Lecantos, was slightly injured during their journey to the show on Tuesday.
“This was a bitter blow, not only for Carl but also for the British team. Lecantos passed a routine pre-Olympic check from the British team vet only the day before leaving for the show and was considered fit and well. This is particularly terrible news for Carl, whose top ride Dolendo was only recently sidelined with injury,” said Davison.
Emma Hindle and Laura Bechtolsheimer will both go forward to the grand prix kür on Saturday. You can follow their progress on www.chio.nl and watch their tests via the website's live streaming. Just remember that Holland is 1hr ahead of us.
The British Olympic team will be announced on Wednesday 25th June.
