The retirement of wonder horse Valegro was a rush of sparkling lights, extended trot and teary tissues.
The achievements of the legendary 14-year-old Negro gelding and Charlotte Dujardin were recognised in a very special ceremony on Wednesday 14 December at the Olympia London International Horse Show. The story of the girl with the dancing horse has touched the hearts of many over the past five years, a career spanning two Olympic Games and numerous gold medals, and his goodbye was befitting of the champion that he is.
The spectacle was witnessed not only by the sell-out crowd in the Olympia Grand Hall but also by thousands of dressage fans across the world as the BBC and FEI TV streamed the momentous occasion live.
