Nicky Patrick and Uglesias (pictured) came away with two wins at the Eastern Regional Championships at the College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe, Beds, 2nd - 3rd August 2008. Nicky rode Malcolm Patrick’s 7 year old, Dutch-bred gelding by Iglesias to win the elementary open and medium open, both with scores above 70%.

“He’s a cheeky horse – like a naughty schoolboy around the yard but he’s very straightforward to train and compete,” said Nicky who has ridden Uglesias since a just-backed three year old.

“He was quite fresh on the first day but he soon chilled out and was great to ride in the two tests,” she added.

Another high scorer was Michael Eilberg riding Ferdi Eilberg’s Janeiro 6. This duo scored 73.60%, the highest score of the show, to head the advanced medium open. This is a busy time for the Eilberg family: while Michael is contesting the regional championships, his sister Maria is in Hong Kong as traveling reserve for the Olympic team.
