Fiona and Penny Bigwood’s stallion Dramatic kept his cool this weekend, wowing the judges with his trot work despite the unsettling weather to take the 6 year old division of the 2008 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden. He was partnered in the arena by German rider Jana Freund, the main rider at the Ferienhof Stucker stud where Dramatic has been stabled for the last four years.
British team rider Fiona explained; “We bought him from the Hannoverian stallion licensing as a 2 year old. Since then he has been used for breeding as well as being very successful in the young horse classes. He is a lovely horse and when we first saw him we fell in love with the way he moves. The extended trot was unbelievable, we all had goose bumps yesterday when he was doing his test. That Jennie Loriston-Clarke was also one of the judges makes it extra special.”
Dramatic is by Don Frederico out of a state premium mare Weltina (by Weltmeyer) and descends from the famous Wolgarune (by Wöhler) damline. He will be imported to England in October with the Bigwoods when they relocate back to the UK and will carry on his training here to Grand Prix level.
