2008 Nationals: day two

There were eight newly-crowned champions today, 19 September, at the 2008 Blue Waters National Dressage Championships at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, which runs until Sunday. This second day of competition is the longest of the show with non-stop dressage from 7.45am until the last prize giving ceremony at 6.30pm.
KBIS British Equestrian Para Equestrian Dressage Championship
There are four categories in this class. The riders are graded according to their level of disability with Grade I being the most severe.
Sophie Wells and the eight-year-old 16hh Dutch-bred gelding by Jazz, Touchdown M, were the overall winners. Sophie, who is based in Nottinghamshire, trains with Angela Weiss. Her ambition is to compete at the 2012 Paralympics and internationally in able-bodied dressage.
Grade I: Rory Williams and Gazel, 65.08%
Grade II: Nicola Tustain and Rivaldo Of Berkeley, 70%
Grade III: Emma Kent and Gentle II, 67.2%
Grade IV: Sophie Wells and Touchdown M, 71.4%

Shearwater Supreme Championship and Stretch & Flex Elementary Open Championship:
Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro (main picture)
Yesterday they won the medium open title with an impressive 4% lead on 73.14%, today they retained the title they won last year, the Shearwater Supreme Championship and also won the elementary open with 74.31%. This is the third year in succession that Valegro has won the Shearwater class. In 2006, he was piloted to victory by one of his joint-owners Carl Hester. The other owner is Roly Luard.
There seems to be no stopping this talented six-year-old 16.2hh Dutch-bred gelding by Negro.

Christian Landolt and Wincent, 70.57

Christian Landolt, who is based in Tetbury and trains with Carl Hester and Sandy Phillips, continued his winning form with the six-year-old 17.1hh Dutch-bred gelding by Negro as the combination also won this summer’s South West open novice title.
Earlier this year, Wincent, who is owned by Christian and Nicole Landolt, won the first BD Dressage Horse of the Year, which was awarded to the horse leading the “top performing horse” rankings on the BD website.

Yesterday Carl and TMovistar took the prix st georges championship, today, it was the inter I, Carl’s 43rd national win.
Sarah Tyler-Evans’ eight-year-old 16.1hh Dutch-bred stallion by Jazz is enjoying a successful year having swept the board in the small tour at Hartpury CDI in July and is proving popular as a breeding stallion with more than 50 mares this season.
