2008 Nationals: day three

The weekend’s entertainment kicked off today, Saturday 20 September, the third day of the 2008 Blue Waters National Dressage Championships, with a highly-amusing masterclass by Anna Ross-Davies and the Cavaleiro Lusitano com Musica display demonstrated its horses’ exceptional suppleness, balance and self-carriage.

Martin Collins Advanced Medium Open Championship:
Michael Eilberg and Janeiro IV, 72.26% (main picture)
Formerly a show jumper, Michael is now giving his sister Maria Eilberg a run for her money and is aiming to be selected for the 2012 Olympics. Here he rode the 11-year-old 16.2hh Rheinlander gelding by Jacquare, who is owned by his father Ferdi.

Dodson & Horrell Novice Restricted Championship:
Verity Boys and GDH Flashdance, 71.84%

Show jumper Verity Boys started riding her partner Garry Williams' eight-year-old 16.2hh German-bred gelding by Fleurop in June. She has only competed in four novice dressage tests in her life before winning a regional final at that level and now the national championship.
Verity, who is based in Colchester, Essex, trains with Anna Wilks as well as Garry.

Easibed Grand Prix Championship:
Laura Bechtolsheimer and Andretti H, 70.29%

Laura’s father Wilfried bought Andretti H back in April from Italian grand prix rider Anna Paprocka-Campanella and Laura is still getting to know the 16.3hh German-bred gelding by Aarking, who was trained by the highly-respected German trainer Hubertus Schmidt.
Laura’s ambition is to make “Andy” a second team contender alongside her 2008 Olympic team horse Mistral Hojris and to qualify Andy for the World Cup Final in Las Vegas next year.

Carl Hester and TMovistar, 74.1%

Carl and Sarah Tyler-Evans’ eight-year-old TMovistar proved unbeatable once again, winning their third title of the show plus the supreme intermediaire championship. Carl was airing his new Spanish freestyle music for the second time; the first was at the recent BD Young Horse & Breeding Championships. It was created for a rider from the Dominican Republic, who had used it for four years and Carl swopped it with music he had used for eight years.
