In only their first season together, pony rider Alice Thompson and her striking nine-year-old 14.2hh dunn stallion Donnerblitz, by Donnerwetter, have formed a solid partnership, gaining the best British scores at the 2006 Le Touquet CDI-P JR YR in France.

Alice, who won team bronze at the 2005 European Championships riding Diamond Ruben, was fourth in the team test with 70%, fifth in the individual with 68.6% and then produced an impressive freestyle to score 73.58% for third place.

Alice, who is 15, found Donnerblitz in Germany in February with the help of her trainer Ian Woodhead and they impressed the selectors at Saumur CDI in May with their consistently good scores.

The former Mountain & Moorland showing rider said: “He was amazing and did everything I asked. He just danced around the freestyle test – it was perfect.”
