The British Young Rider Dressage Scheme (BYRDS) committee is launching an exciting new venture this autumn called the British Dressage Young Professional Award.
The aim of the scheme is to identify and help committed professionals aged 18-25 who have decided to make dressage their career.
The BYRDS committee will be inviting applications from people working full-time in the industry, such as British Dressage (BD) apprentices and those running their own small yard, this autumn.
Candidates will be invited to bring their own horses to one of three viewing days to be held during October and November. These days will take place around the country at the yards of top trainers, such as Jennie Loriston-Clarke and Richard Davison, and will include tuition.
Two riders from each day will go forward to a final to be held early in 2010 at The Talland School of Equitation in Gloucestershire. The finalists will be asked to ride a variety of unknown horses and discuss their future aims and plans.
All six finalists will receive generous training grants and the winner will receive a valuable package of benefits over the ensuing year to give maximum long-term support.
