2009 Southern Winter Final: youngest rider scores double win

The youngest competitor at the 2009 Southern Winter & Music Championships, 12-year-old Aimee Witkin, scored a double win riding her mother Melise’s Visconti King (pictured) at Patchetts Equestrian Centre, Herts, 7-11 February.
Aimee won a section of the prelim regional final on the six-year-old 14.2hh gelding with nearly 73% and also headed the novice restricted freestyle with more than 71%.
Trained by Anna Ross-Davies, Aimee has concentrated on dressage for nearly a year, having enjoyed success with her 13.2hh former showing pony Kelsmcott Sandpiper
“I really like working with Anna and we’ve done lots of training, so I wanted to do well – it feels so good when you do a good test,” said Aimee, whose ponies are stabled at Patchetts.
Anna earned the highest score of the show with more than 76% in the medium freestyle riding Aramis T.
