2009 Rotterdam CDIO: Hindle shines amidst high scores

In the conclusion of an exciting week which saw British riders capture an impressive second place in the Nations Cup at the 2009 CDIO Rotterdam, team riders continued to excel individually in the Grand Prix Special and Kür with German based Brit Emma Hindle topping the field of individual results finishing second on 70.63% with Olympic partner Lancet in the Special missing out on a win by only 0.04%.

Hindle’s success is all the more impressive when the high scores from Holland and Denmark including new Dutch partnership Edward Gal with nine year old stallion Totilas are considered. In their premier international competition Gal and Totilas placed first on a massive 84.50% in the Grand Prix Kür to Music and captured another first place finish on a huge 79.15% in the CDIO Grand Prix. Even Anky van Grunsven and Salinero who posted an 81.45% for third in the Kür and 73.45% in the Grand Prix for second, stayed miles behind Totilas' performance.

Despite the Dutch domination, other British duos held their own with Carl Hester and Liebling II improving on their Grand Prix result to place fourth in the Special with 68.58% and Fiona Bigwood on Wie Atlantico posting a 68.90% for seventh place in the Grand Prix Kür to Music. Jane Gregory and Lucky Star rode a 65.21% for sixth place in the Special.

Looking to build on their current success, the British team will head to Aachen for the CDIO3* on 30 Jun – 5 July. Hindle, Hester and Bigwood will meet up with Laura Bechtolsheimer for this key team event. Lancet will make the trip with Emma Hindle while Carl Hester brings his mount Liebling. Fiona Bigwood will bring Wie Atlantico and Andretti will accompany Laura Bechtolsheimer.
