Aachen CDIO 2009: Hindle breaks Olympic Medalist

In the wake of Britain’s bronze medal position in the team competition in Aachen, Emma Hindle continued to take Germany by storm. Hindle and the 16 year old stallion Lancet came fourth in the Grand Freestyle with a phenomenal 79.50% putting them a clear distance ahead of Olympic medallist, Heike Kemmer and Bonaparte on 77.90%. This followed the Grand Prix Special where Hindle and Kemmer were placed equal fourth.

Kemmer and Bonaparte won individual bronze for Germany at the Beijing Olympic Games so for Hindle to better her result is a real benchmark of GB’s threat as a leading medal contender.

“Lancet was so on form,” said a delighted Hindle. “I was focused and rode with good feeling in the Special and Freestyle and he was amazing – he’s a very special horse. Our music, from the Bryan Adams soundtrack to the film Spirit, is great to ride to and helps me ride a technically clean programme.”

“The whole show was amazing and the crowd was incredible. I’m not a particularly emotional person, but I felt so yesterday as we left the arena!” added Hindle.

“Emma’s freestyle was totally flawless and technically of extreme quality,” said British Team Captain Richard Davison. “This was reflected in her score of almost 80%. She ended up in fourth place but quite frankly it could easily have been even higher.”
