The Eilberg family was on great form at the North-West Regional Championships, Somerford Park 2 – 3 Aug.

Michael Eilberg won the Advanced Medium Open with Lynne Crowden’s 7 year old British-bred mare Woodlander Dornroschen (pictured) then followed this with an Intermediaire I victory on Ferdi Eilberg’s 9 year old Latvian gelding Marakov.

Maria Eilberg also enjoyed success winning the Medium Open. She took this class with Lynne Crowden’s Woodlander Rockstar, the British-bred stallion with whom she won several classes at the Spanish Sunshine Tour earlier in the year. With this 7 year old son of Rotspun, Maria scored 70.54%, a clear 3% above her nearest rival.

“We were very pleased with the day,” said Michael “we were hoping to get the horses qualified and we did, three in a row.”

“It was only Woodlander Dornroschen’s third test at that level but she was great. She made a couple of expensive mistakes at the end but the quality of the rest was really good and that carried us through.”

“Marakov has been going really well but he wasn’t easy in the arena at Somerford. He’s sharp and sensitive and doesn’t forget things easily. He’s been learning one-time changes at home and he wanted to do them while I was working in - fortunately he refrained from doing them in the test.”

Sarah Payne also booked her ticket to the Nationals in convincing style. Partnered by the 8 year old Dutch-bred gelding Sheepgate Ushipower, she headed the Elementary Open with 74.76%, the highest score of the day.
