Southern Regional Championships: double success for Sawyer

Charlie Sawyer and Up To Date IV enjoyed two victories at the Southern Regional Championships, Oldencraig Equestrian Centre, 8 – 9 August 2009.
Sawyer rode his own Dutch-bred Obelisk gelding to head both the Preliminary and Novice Restricted classes with scores of 71.67% and 71.95% respectively.
“He’d done nothing when he came to me but he’s taken to dressage like a duck to water,” said Sawyer, who’s owned the 7 year old for just over a year.
“He’s a very talented horse with a good temperament and he’s great to compete – he’s even better at a show than he is at home. At shows he looks to me for confidence and gives a great feel in the arena.”
“Over the next few weeks, we’ll spend time working at home tidying up a few things. I’ll keep him safe and sound and might take him out a couple of times before the Nationals.”
Another high scorer was Rebecca Morris with Jenny Green’s Zolansky. They headed the Novice Open with an impressive 75.12%, a clear 5% ahead of their nearest rival. Last month, Zolansky won the Shearwater Young Dressage Horse 5 year old Championship ridden by Gemma Green.
