FEI Alltech European Dressage Champs 2009: freestyle preview
last updated on September 23, 2009 13:22
After a phenomenal week of competition here at Windsor the excitement is already building towards a grand prix freestyle competition that will round off one of the most thrilling competitions in dressage history. Nobody knows what quite to expect from the fifteen combinations primed and ready to ride in the main arena tonight.
Freestyle specialists, the Dutch, have already stamped their mark on the competition, wowing audiences and toppling world records in their wake. We will wait with baited breath to see just what heights Edward Gal and Adelinde Cornilessen can go to and while denied an individual place in the special, neither can we discount the chances of their team mate, Olympic Champion Anky van Grunsven from a medal position.
Among them though, three of Britain's silver medal winning team will also be going for the rides of their lives: Individual bronze medalist in the special, Laura Bechtolsheimer, riding to her new freestyle of Shadows music will be hoping for a repeat performance of Thursday - and another British record - to give her the best shot at preventing a Dutch only medal ceremony.
Emma Hindle, first to go for British hopes, will be looking to improve on Thursday's performance riding her father's dark bay stallion Lancet and will also be riding a new Kur to the Bryan Adams soundtrack from the film Spirit. She will be followed shortly after by Carl Hester aboard Donald McTaggart's Liebling II who will be striving to maintain the outstanding consistency he has shown over the last few days.
We will all be willing them on to succeed in what has already been the most successful Championship for the GB team for 16 years. For those not able to make the trip full coverage of the Freestyle competition will be broadcast on the BBC red button service. Saturday 29 August 1940 - 2200, live coverage of the Dressage Final & Grand Prix Freestyle.
