German-based British rider Susan Draper-Pape rode San Remo to win a bronze medal in the five-year-old finals of the 2006 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden, Germany, 3-6 August.

The Oldenburg licensed stallion San Remo, who is by the popular sire Sandro Hit and has Donnerhall as his damsire, stands at the Pape Stud in northern Germany.

Susan, who moved to Germany in 1984 and spent seven years training with the world-renowned Rehbeins, said: “We bought him as a foal from the breeder and this is our first showing season  – he has only been to about five shows – as he has been growing so much. He is such a lovely character and so easy to ride. In the finals, he just gave it everything.”

San Remo will now have a break before competing at the Bundeschampionat, Germany’s showcase breeding competition. If you are fortunate enough to be going to the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, this month, you will be able to see San Remo in action. He is part of the Oldenburg breed society display, which will be held during one of the intervals in the grand prix on Wednesday, 23 August.

Brookhouse Stud's stallion Lancet, who will be competing at the WEG ridden by British team member Emma Hindle, sired the winner of the five-year-old finals, the Dutch-bred gelding Uzzo, ridden by Holland’s Patrick van der Meer. Second place went to another Sandro Hit offspring, Sir Donnerhall, ridden by Germany’s Dr Ulf Moeller.

The Westfalian branded stallion Damon Hill (Donnerhall x Rubinstein) won the six-year-old final ridden by Ingrid Klimke.

Don Ricoss ( Don Frederico/Weltmeyer) a British Hanoverian licensed stallion, ridden by Isobel Bache, was placed 6th in the overall 4 year old stallion championship, with a score of 8.4.
He has now been selected by the Hanoverian Verband as 1st reserve for the Bundeschampionat in Warendorf later this year.
