Frys CDI: Eilbergs on top form

last updated on August 07, 2006 00:00

Father and daughter Ferdi and Maria Eilberg were on top form at Fry’s CDI in Yorkshire, 30 July to 5 August 2006, sweeping the board in the big tour.

Maria and Two Sox just beat her dad and Teutone Z in the grand prix.  They then chose different classes for the next round to avoid another head-to-head meeting.  Maria won the grand prix freestyle and Ferdi the grand prix special.

Maria said: “I was chuffed to beat dad as he is always so hard to beat. He says it is okay either way because if I win it means he has trained me well and if he wins it means his riding is good.”

Both Maria and Ferdi are reserves for the British team at the World Equestrian Games in Germany, on 22-26 August. Maria and Two Sox have recently been told they will be travelling reserves and will be leaving for Aachen in a couple of weeks.

Lisa Hopkins and Nemo III had their most successful international show to date, winning the prix st georges, intermediaire I and taking second in the intermediaire I freestyle with 72.94%. Peter Storr and Desiderato won the latter class.

Nemo has been ridden by Lisa for nearly three years and is owned by British Dressage Marketing Director Lindsey Roberts.

“We didn’t expect him to win - not in our wildest dreams. He was not an expensive horse. I bought him four years ago after recovering from a broken back and wanted a safe and sensible ride. Then he nearly died in January 2005 after a colic attack. The Spanish Sunshine Tour earlier this year has been the making of him and he has blossomed as the summer has gone on,” said Lindsey.
