Horses for Heroes gains support from celebrities, top riders

Horses For Heroes, in aid of Help For Heroes, will see 2,010 horses ridden in a sponsored ride from Ascot Racecourse, around Windsor Great Park and back to the racecourse before racing begins on Saturday 10 July 2010. The event has already received celebrity support from the likes of Toni Terry (pictured right), wife of footballer John Terry and aspiring dressage rider.

“I am working hard to achieve the highest levels of dressage,” said Terry. “I admire hugely the dedication of the riders that I aspire to emulate, but such dedication is nothing compared to what our brave soldiers demonstrate every day in the face of extreme danger. When I heard about the opportunity to be involved in promoting something that brought the diverse horse world together to do our bit for the armed forces, I jumped at the chance.”

Toni will ride with 16 times National Dressage Champion Vicki Thomson-Winfield (pictured with Toni Terry) on the day. “It is a privilege to be able to do what I can to support our Heroes,” said Vicki. “They are willing to give their lives to protect us, so I feel honoured to get involved.”

It is hoped that the initiative will bring together horses and riders from across the equine spectrum in a show of support for our armed forces and will raise at least £1 million for the charity.

Anyone can take part in the ride, from individuals to riding clubs, pony clubs and hunts, but all participants are asked to raise at least £500 for the charity. Riders will be invited to bring supporters and stay for racing at Ascot after the ride. All participants will be given a goody bag and medal to commemorate the event.

Final details are still to be confirmed. For more information or to register for the event visit www.horses4heroes.co.uk today.
