WEG Kür: Van Grunsvens turn
last updated on August 27, 2006 00:00
The battle of old was resumed when Anky van Grunsven and Isabell Werth went head-to-head for the 2006 Kür World Championship title. The result was the same as in The Hague in 1994 where Isabell took the grand prix special title and Anky the freestyle.
In front of a packed stadium with a record audience of more than 40,000, Holland’s Anky and Salinero produced a stunning test to score 86.1%. Denmark’s Andreas Helgstrand and the spectacular nine-year-old grey mare Blue Hors Matine scored 81.5% and relegated Isabell Werth and Satchmo, 80.75%, to bronze-medal position.
Britain’s sole representative in the freestyle, Emma Hindle and the Hannoverian stallion Lancet, produced another quality test to score 69.9% and finish in 15th place.
