2010 Spanish Sunshine Tour week 3: Brits finish strong

British competitors continued to dominate in the third and final week of the Spanish Sunshine Tour, Vejer de la Frontera, Spain, 16-21 March. Capturing first and second in every owners class, sister and brother team Maria and Michael Eilberg also enjoyed strong second and third placings in the Grand Prix and the Kur with big sis Maria achieving a PB of 70.00% on Two Sox (pictured) in the Grand Prix and improving last week’s score in the Kur to 73.55%.
Michael – who’s enjoying his GP debut on the sunshine tour—impressed on board the Bechtolsheimer’s 15 year old Michellino gelding Monet (half brother to Laura’s Mistral Hojris). The combo scored 67.74% in the GP and 71.40% in the Kur for third in both classes. Top honours were taken by Fuego XII, ridden by JuanManuel Muñoz Diaz – posting 71.74 % and 77.75 % respectively.
Between them, the Eilbergs racked up an impressive 11 wins, 13 seconds, 3 thirds, 6 fourths, 1 fifth, 2 sixths and 1 eighth.
“It’s been a really successful three weeks,” said Maria. “Michael and I have been fighting it out between us and Ed (Two Sox) has been brilliant throughout. Even though he finished second this week in the GP and the Freestyle he got the magic 70% in the Grand Prix - finally! And he got an even more exciting 73% in the Freestyle – a fantastic result.”
Not to be outdone, Charlotte Dujardin continued her perfect record in the Prix St Georges with Carl and Roly Luard's Valegro, besting 31 competitors and improving on their previous performances to win with 74.29%. The pair also topped the field in the Intermediaire I Kur to Music on 75.15% with Charlotte and Don Archie taking the FEI six year olds finals on a massive 79.80%.
Representing Britain’s young riders was 19 year old Emily Harris and Washington who topped the Kur to Music on 71.25% and the Young Riders individual test on 65.00% - which saw Brits claim four of the top five spots. Emily went on to take second in the team test with Washington on 66.49% and third with Don Diablo on 65.96% During the tour Emily and Washington won an impressive six young rider classes and placed second in three.
