last updated on October 02, 2006 00:00

The British para riders won the team competition by a comfortable margin in a field of 14 nations at the Moorsele CPDI**** in Belgium, 28 September-1 October 2006. In the process, all eight Brits who competed at the show gained the qualifying scores needed to be able to compete at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

British Dressage Paralympic Director Jane Goldsmith said: “This is our most successful competition ever. On the last day of the show, we achieved fantastic consistency with every single one of the riders scoring 70% or more.”

The team members were Nicola Tustain and Prinz Heinrich, Simon Laurens with GP Molier’s Diamond, Michelle Crunkhorn on No Limit 5 and Lee Pearson with Blue Circle Boy. Lee scored the highest percentage of the show in his freestyle test, more than 81%.

The other riders who qualified were Sophie Christiansen with Martini Maybe, Ricky Balshaw on Deacons Giorgi , Jo Pitt with Rocardo and Debbie Criddle, who was loaned the ride on Blue Circle Boy for one test after her own horse went lame and had to be withdrawn.
