The hotly contested Shearwater Championships attracted high quality fields in all three age groups with Jane Gregory’s much touted Sirius Black (pictured) winning the five-year-old section. “It was one of those days when everything went to plan,” said a delighted Jane, “we left at a ridiculous hour in the morning so that he could do the arena walk but it really paid off-he never looked left or right and was super, super cool-mind you that test was made for him-it showed him off to his advantage.” The horse goes to Hickstead for the Young Horse Championship next week, “then we will put him away for next year-he has more than exceeded are expectations,” added Jane. Charlotte Du Jardin finished in second with GF Deville with Jackie Stolper and Luciano Pavarotti in third.
The Four-Year-olds went to the British bred Farouche. Owned by her breeder Lynne Crowdon along with Alison Walton and the Eilberg Family and ridden by Michael Eilberg maintained her unbeaten record. The mare is royally bred being by the ill fated Furst Heinrich out of Woodlander Dornroeschen, herself a winner over the weekend in the Premier League. “She is a lot like her mother,” said Michael who won the recent Badminton Young Horse Championship her, “’Rosie’ is very special and this mare is looking just as good if not better, she has the talent and the temperament and she is a very exciting prospect.” Andrew Gould and Dornroeschen filled second place with Henry Boswell in the third spot with Breicho.
Gemma Green’s stallion Zolansky won the six–year-old to follow on from the five-year-old section he won here last year. “When they have done well in the Young Horse classes the pressure is on,” said Gemma, “so it is great to come back here and do so well.” The Polansky stallion is heading for Hickstead’s Young Horse Championship and the summer regionals where he is qualified at elementary level. Charlotte Du Jardinhad to settle for another runners up spot this time with Don Archie with Ramazotti and Calum Whitworth in third.
