British owned horse qualifies for Bundeschampionships

Baron de Ley a five year old stallion owned by Southern Cross Stud who are based in Kent has qualified for the prestigious Bundeschampionships held in September in Warendorf. He is ridden and trained by Brigitte and Wolfram Wittig and is by their Grand Prix stallion Breitling W who is currently number one in the German Breeding index. Baron scored 8.3 to qualify despite it being only his second competition.

Baron is out of the hugely successful mare Devisa who is by the Thoroughbred stallion Diego, together with Breitling she has already produced two licensed stallions, three Grand Prix horses, winners at small tour and several Bundeschampionship and World Breeding Championship finalists. Baron was spotted by Jill and Jules Walker, owners of Southern Cross Stud on a trip to the Wittig's farm to view stallions to use on their mares.

At the time he was just turning three and in the process of being backed but you could already see the potential in him. Baron is currently focussing on his training and is not being used for breeding but the Walkers hope to incorporate him in to their breeding program over the coming years.
