Dr Linda Prescott-Clements and Menelaos (pictured) captured the preliminary regional championship at the Scotland Regional Championships, Ingliston EC, 31 July - 1 August 2010.

The Danish-bred trakehner gelding was bought from Ulrik Molgaard but within a month of buying him Linda was diagnosed with cancer. “I’ve only been back riding him around four months but two friends Gemma MacDougal and Sarah De Leon kept him ticking over for me,” explained Linda, “and Adam Kemp and Matt Frost have been helping me with him. I couldn’t believe how well he went,” added Linda, “I have done dressage for years but before I got this horse I had never won a point and here I am off to Stoneleigh.”

Nicola Gillespie had a great show winning both the advanced medium and medium opens with Fearless and finishing second in the former with Lendel. Nicola has had Fearless for three years but only took the reins over in February. “I bought him in Germany three years ago,” explained Nicola, “he was very green and so he has been completing his education over there with Frank Moore.”

Nicola has carried on the training in the UK with Adam Kemp who flew up to Scotland from Hickstead to run his eye over the combination before the class. “Fearless is still very inexperienced in terms of competition,” said Nicola, “and I think what pleased me most was during his second test. A very noisy trailer drove past and three months ago he would have gone ballistic but he kept his head and played it Mr Cool.”

No competitors were forward for the Intermediate I and the advanced medium restricted had just one combination but having achieved the necessary percentage Diana Zajda and Chablis II are off to the Nationals.
