Britain considers bid for FEI Games

last updated on January 19, 2006 00:00

The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) and UK Sport are jointly funding a feasibility study to evaluate a possible UK bid to host the FEI Games, formerly known as the World Equestrian Games, in either 2014 or 2018.

The study will evaluate a range of topics relating to bidding for and staging of this event, including venue and infrastructure feasibility, economic impact and legacy issue.

UK Sport international director John Scott said: “Since 1999, Great Britain has hosted successful European Championships in the three Olympic disciplines of dressage, show jumping and eventing. We believe the UK is now capable of delivering a first-class FEI Games.”

BEF chief executive Andrew Finding said: “We want to assess the wisdom of bidding to stage the Games, which involves the simultaneous staging of the world championships in each of the seven horse sport disciplines of show jumping, dressage, eventing, endurance, driving, vaulting and reining. The staging of the FEI Games is a significant undertaking”

Tenders are invited for the study by 12pm on 15 February 2006. Interested parties can obtain a copy of the tender application document by downloading it from the UK Sport website at http://www.uksport.gov.uk, the BEF website at http://www.bef.co.uk or by contacting the BEF.
