Dear All

What can we say about this year except WOO HOO what amazing achievements with both our teams and individual results, win after win came our way - it seemed every few days we were saying well done to one of you! Our teams started with winning the BYRDS Inter Regionals and ended RULING Sheepgate!!

But our region isn’t all about just winning, success comes in so many different ways. We have watched people doing tests for the very first time, conquering their own doubts and improving weekly with their training and development so regardless of everything Southern we are proud of every last one of you!

Our newsletter is attached with lots of details and highlights from the year. So remember it is about taking part and being the best you can both be and we are all here to help you in any way we can. Roll on 2016 Southern young riders – we have plans for you

Dear Coaches

Regional Coaches Development is a new initiative which aims to bring ongoing training and personal professional development sessions to British Dressage Trainers/Coaches in their own regions.  As part of the programme we will be arranging a series of sessions with national and international trainers and coach educators here in the Southern Region.

Our first session will take place on the 3rd October and the subject will be Performance Profiling.   I am delighted to say that we have secured Jill Day as our Coach Educator for this session.  Jill will need no introduction for many of you, having ridden to international GP level herself and trained many riders to GP level also in a career spanning 45 years, as well as a bronze medal winning event rider at the Beijing Olympics.  Jill is now the coaching lead for BD with a responsibility for all matters relating to coaching and especially UKCC. She sits on the BEF Coaching Development Action Team (CDAT) as the BD representative looking after BD's interests in all matters relating to coaching.

Performance Profiling is a vital area of coaching which all coaches should be familiar with and know how to use. It will help your riders to analyse their strengths and weaknesses and to come up with a plan of action. The BEF have announced that future talent programs will include riders performance profiles. BYRDS and Para coaches will be required to profile all their riders in the future.  Can you afford not to know how to profile your own riders?

This session is aimed at all BD Coaches but will be of particular interest to BYRDS and Para coaches as well as anyone involved in regional coaching, camps and team selection.  Being part of the UKCC Level 3 examination It is also vital for anyone hoping to upgrade from Level 2 to Level 3 in the future.

This training session will be at Parwood Equestrian Centre, Surrey on Monday 3rd October from 1-4pm.  Price is just £10 per head including tea/coffee/biscuits.  Places will be snapped up quickly I'm sure and preference will be given to those on the current Trainers List before BD members so be sure to book your place soon.  Bookings can be made through the bookwhen website at https://bookwhen.com/bdsouthern.

If you have any questions or need any further details please don't hesitate to contact me.  If you have already contacted me to reserve a place please confirm and pay through the bookwhen website.

Look forward to seeing many of you there!

Kind regards

Frances Wilson  Coaches Representative BD Southern Region

British Dressage Southern Region are thrilled to announce the appointment of Tanya Reid onto the Southern Committee as PARA Equestrian representative.

Tanya brings with her a wealth of experience and is very keen to invest time and energy into the sport she loves. Tanya is passionate about developing opportunities for PARA riders in the region focusing on inclusivity and opportunity for all. Tanya is a BHSAI and UKCC Level 2 coach and regularly trains with Simon Laurens and Dr Carol Green. Tanya is busy organising all sorts of events but did you know that any training set up by any region counts towards team selection criteria?

Tanya says “..I’d like to make PARA dressage more inclusive by organising training that is open to all PARA classified and RDA riders, as well as able-bodied riders and to get information about training opportunities to those riders. The trend to include PARA competitions alongside regular BD shows is a good one, and I’d like to try to expand that".

Like to know more about opportunities in our region? Please contact tanya.reid@outlook.com
