Dear Coaches

Regional Coaches Development is an initiative from British Dressage which aims to bring ongoing training and personal professional development sessions to British Dressage Trainers/Coaches in their own regions.  As part of the programme we will be arranging a series of sessions with national and international trainers and coach educators here in the Southern Region.

Our next session will take place on the 1st August and the subject will be Coaching Flying Changes.   I am delighted to say that we have secured Jill Day as our Coach Educator for this session.  Jill will need no introduction for many of you, having ridden to international GP level herself and trained many riders to GP level also in a career spanning 45 years, as well as a bronze medal winning event rider at the Beijing Olympics.  Jill is now the coaching lead for BD with a responsibility for all matters relating to coaching and especially UKCC. She sits on the BEF Coaching Development Action Team (CDAT) as the BD representative looking after BD's interests in all matters relating to coaching.

Coaching the flying chanages is an area of interest to many coaches and riders and one which can potentially cause many difficulties.  Knowing when to start to introduce the work, coaching riders who may have not ridden any before, helping riders understand the positioning and feel are all areas that can concern coaches.  This session will help you address all these issues and more.  There will be three guinea pig horse and rider combinations at various points in their lateral work journey so as many points of interest as possible can be covered.

This session is aimed at all BD Coaches but will be of particular interest to those coaching at elementary level and above.  Being part of the UKCC Level 3 examination it is also vital for anyone hoping to upgrade from Level 2 to Level 3 in the future.

This training session will be at Parwood Equestrian Centre, Surrey on Tuesday 1st August from 2-4pm.  Price is just £12 per head including tea/coffee/biscuits.  Places will be snapped up quickly I'm sure and preference will be given to those on the current Trainers List before BD members so be sure to book your place soon.  Bookings can be made through the bookwhen website at https://bookwhen.com/bdsouthern.

We will also be hosting a clinic with Jill in the morning at Parwood.  This will be limited to just 6 spaces so if you (or any of your clients) are interested please book through the bookwhen website.  Price is £45 per session with £15 arena hire payable on the day.

If you have any questions or need any further details please don't hesitate to contact me.  frances@throwley.com

Look forward to seeing many of you there!

Kind regards

Frances Wilson
