Frequently asked questions
Have a question or need some help? Our frequently asked questions may just give you the answer.
How do I place an advert?
You’ll need to have an account on the classified microsite, this is separate to your BD membership. Start by clicking the red ‘place an advert’ button at the top right of the page, create your account and follow each step. You’ll receive two emails on completion of your listing, one from us to say your advert is now live and one from our payment provider, Stripe, with the record of your financial transaction.
Why do I need to create a new profile, I’m already a member?
The classified microsite isn’t linked to the BD membership database so you’ll need to have an account so that we can communicate with you and you can administer your adverts. It’s simple, quick and free. Don’t forget to include your membership number so you can receive the 25% member discount on advertising.
I can’t access my account, how do I get help?
Please use the forgotten password function in the first instance. An email will be sent to your registered address where you can reset your password. If you’re still having issues, please email email@example.com or call +44(0) 2476 698839 and a member of the BD team will be in touch.
Who qualifies for the member price?
Any current paid member of British Dressage is eligible for the 25% discount. This includes Full (competing), Full (non-competing), Club, Trial, Winter, Life and Company members. Please make sure you supply a valid membership number when you create your account.
I can’t upload any text or pictures – who do I contact?
The process is easy to follow but if you’re having issues, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call +44 (0) 2476 698839.
Can I edit my advert?
Just log in to your account via the link on the top right of the home page and use the ‘Manage adverts’ navigation on the left of the page. Here you can edit adverts, delist adverts, relist or place a new advert.
Can I choose which picture is my lead photo?
The picture you upload first will default to the lead photo. You can reorder them by click and dragging in the editing area.
My item has sold, can I remove my advert?
Certainly – it’s simple. Log in to your account and your active adverts will appear. Click on the advert you need to edit, click the ‘update period’ link on the left and there’s a button ‘stop advert’ which will end your advert early.
Can I extend my advert if I need to?
You can relist an old advert at any time. Log in to your account, go to ‘your inactive adverts’ and click on the one you’d like to relist. Click on ‘update period’ on the left hand navigation and you can select the length of time and add payment details. Your advert will appear shortly after the payment has been confirmed.
Is my data safe?
Payments are made using Stripe, one of the world’s leading online financial online payment providers.
Can I search or filter for exactly what I’m looking for?
Our classified platform has a full search facility. From the home page, you can start a basic search and then narrow down your options using the left hand options. You can also search by keyword if there’s something very specific you wish to include.
Can I get a refund?
You can edit your advert at any stage if you spot errors or wish to add/change copy and/or photos. We will not issue refunds for cancelled or inaccurate adverts. Further information is available in our Classifieds terms and conditions.
An advert looks suspicious/offensive, what do I do?
Please email the BD team at email@example.com or call +44(0) 2476 698839 and we’ll investigate and remove if necessary. Please include a description of the content. This may include scam adverts designed to commit fraud, illegal/obscene/discriminatory/inappropriate content, copyright breaches, spam or content which goes against our classified terms and conditions or general website terms and conditions.
How can I protect myself against fraudulent purchasers or sellers?
Sadly, online advertising is often targeted by scammers and fraudulent users – both as advertisers and buyers and they can be very convincing. At British Dressage we do our best to keep this to a minimum and can control adverts on our site but what we can't monitor is who contacts sellers in response to an advert.
Please be extra vigilant and always remember:
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. If you are contacted regarding an issue with your advert, please challenge and ask questions to make sure the contact is from British Dressage. If you’re in doubt, contact another member of staff to check that the office has tried to make contact with you.
- Be cautious about clicking any links in an email, no matter how convincing they seem.
- Don’t give your payment or bank details to someone who calls or emails you until you are absolutely confident in the transaction.
- Any responses to buy an item like a horse or vehicle without viewing are likely to be fraudulent.
- Don’t let goods leave your possession unless you have cleared funds in your account.
- Try to use recognised payment providers such as PayPal who offer a degree of protection.
- Payment by credit card offers more protection so choose this option if available.
- The team at BD will advise if we can, it's always worth a second opinion.

I’ve been contacted by a suspicious buyer, what do I do?
If you suspect the approach is not genuine, either do not engage or reply to say the item is sold and end all correspondence. Please forward any emails to firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can monitor activity.
