Volunteering and stewards

If you're wanting to give back to your sport, or just lend a helping hand, there are lots of volunteering opportunities to choose from!

Stewards- checking start list

The sport of dressage simply couldn't happen without its strong network of officials and volunteers. Hear their stories on why they volunteer, their tips for anyone wanting to get involved and how rewarding it can be.

Volunteers

At competitions, all scorers, runners (who collect test sheets from the judges and take them to the secretary's office), writers (who write down the judge's comments) and many of the show secretaries do it purely for the love of the sport. Not only this, but the board directors of British Dressage are voluntary, as are all of the regional committee staff.

Stewards

Stewards play an important role in ensuring fair play for all during competition and are in place to support riders, as well as look after the welfare of the horse. You can volunteer locally to help at shows or you can become a BD steward! As a BD Steward you will undergo training and regular CPD to officiate at a number of fixtures, throughout the year.
