Mistral Hojris - 1, Totilas - 1

Laura Bechtolsheimer has continued her fine spring form with a win and three second placings at Wiesbaden CDI4* - including victory over Matthias Rath and Totilas. The triple World Silver medallist took her two top horses to contest the Freestyle and Special Grand Prix Classes. With her thoroughbred-sired Andretti H, Laura just couldn’t better the flamboyant Spaniard Juan Manuel Munoz Diaz in the Grand Prix for Freestyle and Freestyle competitions to maintain their unbeaten record this season. In the first class on Saturday, the duo scored 72.49%, just 0.6% behind Juan Manuel then, under the lights on Sunday, they achieved 77.93% - 0.9% adrift of the winner.

In the same classes, compatriot Henriette Anderson and Paula Potter’s Louis D’Or enjoyed one of their best results this season in finishing sixth in the qualifying Grand Prix and then eighth in the Freestyle. A plus was breaking the magic barrier to finish on 70.05% - their best score this year.

Also in action was Emma Hindle with Brookhouse Stud’s Furstenreich. Scores of 64.87% and 66.38% left them 12th and 13 in the qualifying GP and Freestyle respectively.

Saturday’s Grand Prix for Special was the much anticipated first clash between Laura and her seasoned partner Mistral Hojris and the new combination on the block, Matthias Rath and Totilas. And, round one went to the Bechtolsheimer corner. Five scores from 78.62% to 80.64% left Laura and ‘Alf’ clear winners by over 5% ahead of Hubertus Schmidt riding Valentino G. Matthias was third with an unsettled Totilas.

Today (Monday 13 June), was round two, the Grand Prix Special. Laura was drawn before Matthias and produced a strong, polished test with some fantastic highlights to score 80.50%. This time, Totilas looked much more content and produced some of the work we’re familiar with – enough to score 81.48% for the win. It was close – two judges had Laura in first overall – it’s going to be an interesting summer…bring on round three!
