BD Abroad: International round-up

Some of Britain’s top combinations travelled overseas at the weekend for international competitions.

Emile Faurie performed well at the Saumur CDI3* in France with partner Weekend Fun, his own 15-year-old Welt Hit II gelding. Scoring 70.480% in the Grand Prix and 73.000% in the Freestyle, the pair claimed fourth and third respectively. Warwickshire’s Gareth Hughes also celebrated success at the French venue aboard new ride, Anne Keen’s 11-year-old son of Don Crusador, Don Carissimo. Their first international together, the duo eased into life abroad, improving on their Grand Prix score of 67.580% for 13th to claim third in the Special with 69.039% - even more impressive when considering this was the gelding’s first try at the Grand Prix Special.

In the Small Tour classes, Vicky Thompson-Winfield rode a cracker of a PSG test with Toni Terry’s Belissimo M stallion, Beltoni (pictured). It may have been the 12-year-old stallion’s first international competition, but that still didn’t stop Vicky and the impressive chestnut from gaining a great score of 70.263% for second place. Claire Abel and her 12-year-old Roh Magic-sired gelding, Rowan Magic, followed in fifth with 68.026%.

Over to Germany, Kay Maxted and Sarah Millis travelled to contest both the Big Tour and Small Tour classes. Riding Behroez, her own ten-year-old son of United, Sarah scored 67.368% for 11th in the PSG but relaxed more into the Inter I and shot up the placings to fifth with a solid 68.509%. In the Grand Prix, Sarah and her second ride Hofjuwel, Katja Kuistila’s Hofrat gelding, elected for the Grand Prix Special and mirrored her Grand Prix score of 64.940% with 64.588% to place ninth. Kent’s Kay Maxted followed behind in tenth with her own 19-year-old Gribaldi gelding, Privaldi with 62.392%.

Finally, Julia Coppard-Dornig made the journey to Budapest for their CDI3* where she placed in the top ten in both the Grand Prix and Special with scores of 62.220% and 61.235 respectively with Ruth Celand-Kerky’s 11-year-old son of Sir Donnerhall, Sisley Santino.
