BD Winter Regionals: Myerscough

After six days of dressage, 19 classes and 1089 score sheets the popular North West Regional Championships held at Myerscough College drew to a close this weekend (14 – 19 Feb 2017).

Eventer turned dressage rider Ruth Edge excelled inside the white boards once again this week winning two titles with Gary Power’s PSH Twilight. The six-year-old black stallion ‘Twee’ (PSH Overture x Rotspon) owned the arena to earn the highest score of the Championships gaining 77.38% in the Blue Chip Novice Gold. A day later Ruth and Twee returned to the Myerscough Arena to take another victory in the Baileys Horse Feeds Novice Gold Freestyle; the duo scored 74.26% riding to powerful music by Tom Hunt.

Lancashire-based Jessica Dunn was another rider to win in multiple classes. The talented rider, who learnt her trade in Germany with Wolfram Wittig, scored in the Albion Medium Gold with her own and the Keenan Family’s seven-year-old Fyona (pictured). The Dutch-bred mare by Sorrento produced superior work to score 71.82%. In the Charles Owen Advanced Medium Gold Jess rode to a win this time with the White Hill Stud’s LG Alicante Valley who lead the field after scoring 71.89%. Speaking about ‘Chello’ on Facebook Jess said ‘I cannot believe that the wonderful Chello won his Advanced Medium yesterday! All I asked of him was that he trusted me... and for the first time ever he did. I could not be prouder of him.’

Amateur rider Elaine Wormwell enjoyed a fantastic week at Myerscough riding to her first Regional title. Elaine, from Aysgarth in North Yorkshire, tasted victory in the Equi-Trek Elementary Gold with her own KWPN gelding Don Juan. The pair scored 68.85% to gain their ticket to the NAF Five Star Winter Championships, a feat which Elaine described as a ‘dream come true’. A good week turned into a great one for the combination as they went on to win the PDS Saddles Elementary Gold Freestyle with 70.64%. Elaine balances her time between dressage and show jumping competing at BS Newcomers with her other horse Avanti.

Standing out in the Silver classes was Mount St John rider Lucinda Elliot. Twenty-one-year-old Lucinda won the Blue Chip Novice Silver Section One with Mount St John Daytona and the Equi-Trek Elementary Silver with MSJ Top Secret. Her results at Myerscough mean that Lucinda now has four titles on three different horses within eight days after her successes at Bishop Burton earlier this week.

It was a successful week for local rider Becky Moody and her team. Becky booked her place in the Magic Prix St Georges finals with Jo Cooper’s eight-year-old KWPN Eureko. Becky and Eureko scored 70% for the win to finish ahead of Louise Davison with Ciljano Van De Kampert and Sharon Lindop with Sandhaven who completed the top three. A renowned trainer as well as rider, Becky’s pupil Sophie Taylor continued the team’s success as she rode to victory in the Charles Owen Advanced Medium Silver aboard the Moody sisters’ Madams Miss Maria; the pint-sized pair scored an impressive 71.14%.

British Dressage thanks Myerscough College for another fantastic Regional event, congratulations to all competitors and we look forward to seeing those who qualified back in the arena at the NAF Five Star Winter Championships.
