BD Winter Regionals: Morris EC

Last week the Scottish Winter Regional Championships took place at Morris EC, Kilmarnock (19 – 24 Feb).

Taking home two titles at Novice level was Jo Barry with Reay Campbell’s Sugar Plum Fairy (pictured). Jo rode the Sir Donnerhall mare to success in the Blue Chip Novice Gold scoring 73.45% and then the Baileys Horse Feeds Novice Gold Music Freestyle scoring 74.07%. The day was not without a little drama as Jo admitted on Facebook that it took 40 minutes to load the dark bay mare in the rain that morning, fortunately she redeemed herself in the tests!

‘Plum’s’ win continues a successful month of Regionals for Reay Campbell of Caledonia Sports Horses as another home-bred, Don Caledonia, has also booked his ticket to the NAF Five Star Winter Championships with Hannah Biggs on board after placing first in the Magic Prix St Georges class earlier this month at Merrist Wood.

Another breeder to enjoy more success was Emma Blundell of Mount St John Stud who added two more titles to the team’s collection making it six overall. Piloted by Lucinda Elliot MSJ Furstin Fugger topped the leader board in the Equi-Trek Elementary Gold with 75.05%, the highest score of the show. The dainty pair went on to win again, this time in the Albion Medium Silver after earning 70.91%. The six-year-old mare by Fürst Heinrich notched up four nines in the Elementary class and will hope to impress the judges once again as she heads to Myerscough Premier League to contest the Young Horse classes and Mediums.

It was another young horse to take the win in the KBIS Preliminary class, this time Hokey Catoki with Amy Pickard. The five-year-old showed his class to score 71.79% securing their place at the finals in April. Amy will also be competing at Myerscough Premier League in the hot Young Horse classes.

Daviot-based rider Caitlin Padfield excelled in two classes with her own Upside Down Van De Kwikaard, known to his friends as ‘Sid’. The duo won the Equi-Trek Elementary Gold with 70.94% and the Spillers Medium Silver Music Freestyle with 68.44%. Twenty-year-old Caitlin, a student of Chemical Engineering at the University of Aberdeen, also competes in eventing having ridden up to One Star level.

British Dressage thanks the team at Morris Equestrian Centre and all judges, writers, volunteers and sponsors for another great Regional Championships. Congratulations to all competitors who took part, particularly those who qualified.
