Newsround presenter does dressage
BBC Newsround presenter Michael Absalom, known as Abs, had a go at dressage for a slot on the children’s TV programme, CBBC’s Sportsround, which will be screened on Saturday 13 December from 8.15 to 8.30am on BBC2. It will also be available on the Sportsround website after this date on
Filming took place at the British Dressage show venue Kingswood Equestrian Centre in Wolverhampton last week, with resident dressage instructor Nicola Lickley teaching Abs on a borrowed horse called Keilder.
Abs, who rode a few times as a child but has not been near a horse since the age of 10, had three hours of instruction and para-equestrian dressage rider Ricky Balshaw was also on hand to offer his mentorship and advice.
Following this training, Abs and Keilder competed HC in a prelim 4, judged by list 6 judge Hilary Wells.
Kingswood MD Robert Lickley said: “Everything went well with the filming. It was great fun and a great success considering the three hours of riding he did!”
