Dame Kelly Holmes to speak at BEF Coaching Convention 2010

Double Olympic Gold medallist, Dame Kelly Holmes has today been announced as one of the keynote speakers for the BEF's Coaching Convention which takes place on Tuesday 19th October 2010 at Stareton Hall, Warwickshire.

During her distinguished athletics career, Kelly won a total of 12 major medals at Commonwealth, European, World and Olympic meets, including two gold medals from the 1500m and 800m in Athens (2004).

After retiring from international competition in 2005, Kelly has since founded the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust (2008), a charity with the mission to 'inspire young people to find and fulfil their potential in sport or in life through our workforce of elite sports performers'.

The projects and programmes established through the trust are designed to inspire sporting talent, to encourage young people to stay in and excel at sport; inspire lives, through the creation of sporting role models, to help raise the aspirations of young people and harness talent, by offering help to retiring champions to fulfil their potential after their sporting careers have finished.

Dame Kelly Holmes, Double Olympic Champion and Chair of the DKH Legacy Trust said: "I am delighted to be speaking at the BEF Coaching Convention. There is no doubt that my coach made an enormous contribution to my success as an athlete and helped me realise my dream of becoming Olympic Champion.

I am passionate about helping people fulfil their potential, so it is fantastic to see this sport investing in their coaches. Hopefully we are helping them to grow and enabling them to support the next generation of champions. It's great to be able to play a role in that process."

Suzanne Genery, Head of Sports Development at the British Equestrian Federation, said; "We are delighted that Kelly has kindly agreed to come and speak at the Convention. Dame Kelly's experience in coaching will not only bring a new dimension to discussions but also provide attendees with an insight into the training that went behind one of this country's greatest athletes."

The Coaching Convention is designed for coaches and coach developers across the federation. Ex-International rugby player, Phil de Glanville will compere at the convention, introducing the coaching case studies and keynote speakers.

The day will include workshop sessions discussing how to develop the people you coach and how to develop yourself and others as coaches, and a question and answer panel session at the end of the day.

Tickets are £65 and early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. Booking forms are available to download from the BEF website or available from all our member bodies or via the following link:
