Academies

As well as Regional training, there are National training opportunities for active BD Youth members. 
BD Youth Academies are open to B-A squad riders who are active in their region. Selected riders will receive coaching and performance development sessions, both mounted and unmounted, over two 2-day camps running through Autumn/Winter.
The aim of the Academies is to develop all-round equestrian athletes and camps will include sessions such as:
- Psychology and performance profiling
- Nutrition of rider and horse
- Rider fitness, balance and core strength
- Lecture demonstartions
- Inspirational talks
- Mounted training 

Foundation Academies
B, B+ and A Squad riders who have attended squad assessments after the 1 December 2018, 3 regional training days since 13 August 2018 and have achieved a minimum of 3 scores of 66% or above at Elementary are eligible to apply for the 2019 Foundation Academies.
Foundation Academy athletes are automatically eligible for selection onto the National Academy for the following year. 
 
Three Foundation Academy camps in 2019 will be held at the following locations:
Venue Camp 1 Camp 2
Alnwick Ford 19&20 October 14&15 December
Field House/Arena UK 5&6 October (Field House) 16&17 November (Arena UK)
Keysoe/Parwood 26&27 October (Keysoe) 7&8 December (Parwood)

Applications for 2019 Foundation Academies will open on 1 May 2019 and close at midnight on 14 July.

 National Academy
12 riders across all of the Foundation Academies will be selected as National Academy athletes for the following year. Riders are selected depending on their dedication to the process, improvement shown, knowledge and ability.

National Academy riders are invited to attend two 2-day camps with in-depth riding and athlete development training from top industry professionals. The Sport England-funded National Academy provides selected riders with many opportunities, benefits and support throughout the year to help their progression as young athletes. 
As well as two fully-funded camps, National Academy athletes also recieve further join-up and training days over the year to assist their development and to monitor progress towards their individual goals.

Please note: To apply for the Youth Academies riders are required to have been to a squad assessment since 1 December of the preceeding year. 

To attend International viewing days, Youth riders are not required to have attended a squad assessment however if they are unsuccessful at International viewing and wish to divert to Academies instead, then squadding will be necessary.
