SportsAid

SportsAid is a charity that financially supports young talented sports people to help them to achieve sporting success. Within the sport of equestrianism, SportsAid has supported young able bodied and disabled riders when they are on the first rungs of the sporting ladder to Olympic and Paralympic success for approaching 30 years.

Each year disciplines are asked to nominate talented riders who meet the criteria for grants to help them achieve sporting success.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a SportsAid award you must:

  • Live and train in England, Wales or Scotland
  • Be aged between 15 and 25 years old (30 for Para Equestrian Dressage)
  • Not be in receipt of any other funding which involves a cash or APA element, such as Lottery Funding
  • Reach minimum performance criteria listed below

A rider's age will be calculated in accordance with FEI rules. Competition results must have been obtained between 1 October 2015 and 1 October 2016 (inclusive) unless specifically stated otherwise.

15 years: Achieving at Elem/Med (or above) on horses, final scores of 68%+ at a minimum of 3 competitions and one score at Elem/Medium (or above) of 66% at either Regional Championship, National Championship or in Team/Individual Junior classes at Premier League competitions. Horse/Rider combination must show potential to progress to Advanced Medium level.

Riders who have represented Great Britain on Pony European Teams in 2016 are eligible to apply.

16 – 18 years: Top 15 placing individually in the Team or Individual Test at Junior European Championships in 2016 or a minimum of 3 final scores at 65% at Adv. Med Open (incl. FEI JR Team and Individual tests) achieved at Premier Leagues, Summer Regional Championships or BD National Championships.

19 – 21 years: Top 15 placing individually in the Team or Individual Test at Young Rider European Championships in 2016 or a minimum of 3 final scores of 65% or above at PSG/Inter I (incl. YR Team & Indv. tests) achieved at either Premier Leagues, Summer Regional Championships or BD National Championships

22 – 25 years: A minimum of 3 final scores of 67% or above at PSG or above at Premier Leagues, Summer Regional Championships or BD National Championships OR a minimum of 2 final scores of 63% or above at a Premier League U25 Grand Prix or Premier League Inter II level.

All applications must come through the National Governing Body (NGB).
