My name is Sharon Walker and I am your Regional Development Officer.  My role is to help you develop, progress and learn more about your sport, regardless of which aspect of dressage is your focus.  With the help of the amazing Southern Region Committee we organise and support training days, camps, test riding, judge training, para events, competitions and shows plus much more.  In addition we are always interested in your ideas and opinions so don't hesitate to get in touch.  Contact me on the email address or telephone number above.

Southern Chairman - Sam Osborn

Sam was one of our original BYRDS members when Dane Rawlins and Egon Von Greyez set it up a few years ago now!  Sam has competed up to PSG and internationally as a Young Rider.  Sam is passionate about training and working with young people and will be in her element putting together training days which will cover lots of different topics from Biomechanics to sports psychology.  Contact Sam by email

  •  *** A fabulous chance to meet Harry Payne UKCC Level 4 Coach and List 1 Judge at Merrist Wood on Sunday 25th August at 7.00pm.  "What the Judge wants to see" - An informal session where riders will watch the test with Harry commentating.  A great opportunity before your Round 2 Area Festival.   Get over to Bookwhen to book your place - only £15.***
  • Senior Home International - your region needs you.  Get your applications in.  Get over to Bookwhen or email Sharon Walker for details.
  • We have another coaching seminar with Jill Day on Sunday 10th November - this will be a whole day event - but you can do all day or half a day - venue to be confirmed.
  • Flexi-training - why not try our flexi-training, you can book your chosen lesson with one of our trainers and this is valid for 3 months.  You book via Bookwhen, you will receive a booking code and contact details for the trainer.  You can then book your lesson directly with the trainer at a mutually convenient time.  The training will be recorded on your training record and can be used towards regional selection policies - Go on give it a go, get over to Bookwhen and book a lesson.
  • Remember to get your training booked to use towards the Senior Home Internationals.  Applications go live soon 
  • There is still a senior camp on 25th/26th August to come.  Get over to Bookwhen to book your place.  This counts towards your Home International points.

  • Camps - we have four camps in 2019 - Seniors 6th/7th April at Parwood (now fully booked with a waiting list) - Youth 8th/9th April at Parwood (also fully booked) and 25th/26th May at Oldencraig and Seniors 25th/26th August at Merrist Wood.  A great chance to have private lessons with UKCC coaches, polework, testing riding and much more.  To reserve your place go off to Bookwhen and book at just £50 deposit.

BD Youth 

  • Jane Lewis is your BD YOUTH SOUTHERN representative.  Jane is based in Horsham, West Sussex and has been our BD Youth Rep since 2017.  She has two children, one granddaughter, 5 horses and 6 dogs!!!  These all keep her very busy.   Please contact Jane if you have any queries or need any information by email.

  • Catherine Peck is BD YOUTH SOUTHERN representative.  Catherine is 25 years old and lives in Southwater, West Sussex. She works full time with horses on a livery yard in Alfold, Surrey.  She owns two horses, a three year old who Catherine will produce herself and Royal Applause who she has owned for 10 years.  The partnership had a very successful showing career then seeking new challenges 3 years ago joined BD and have gone from Prelim to competing at Medium level.  They also represented BD youth team Southern at Sheepgate under 25s championship, inter regionals and home internationals.  Having experienced first hand being part of Team Southern she is looking forwards to sharing her knowledge & supporting youth members & their families in 2019.   • Emma Butler lives in Hollingbourne in Kent with her husband Mark and son Rory, where they run a successful training and livery yard.  Emma competed to Medium level with her own skewbald Irish mare, Ballingowan Lilly (CP to her friends), with whom she represented TEAM SOUTHERN at two Home Internationals and two Inter Regionals, being part of the winning Inter Regional Team in 2014.  You can contact Emma by email

  • Emma Roche lives in Cranleigh in Surrey with her husband Sean and her 3 children.  After leaving school Emma trained for her BHSAI with the late Jennifer Sewell at the TTT.  Emma is currently competing 3 horses from Novice to Advanced.  Emma has ridden at two Inter Regionals and four Home Internationals since 2015 on her own horse Escamillo.   • TIME FOR TRAINING - All Senior training and events are located on the online booking page  We offer a wide variety of training with UKCC L3 / 4 accredited or UKCC L2 recognised coaches.  All coaches are happy to train what ever level you are competing at, and are extremely approachable.


  • Yvonne Huber is your BD JUDGES representative, Yvonne is a BD judge, side saddle judge, BHSi.i.i and a ARBS trainer.  She has competed in showing, side saddle and dressage for many years.  As the Judges representative she is responsible for arranging Judge Training for all levels, plus arranges Judges Seminars and being there as a supporter of the judges in the Southern Region.  Please contact Yvonne if you need any information by email

  • Please remember you are welcome to attend any seminars whether it is at the level you are listed or not; but it will not count as your official seminar unless it is your current listing. If you are thinking of up grading it will be a good opportunity to attend the next level.

Samantha Mabb and Caroline Gibson are the Marketing Representatives for the Southern Region, so if you have anything you wish to send them, writeups, photos etc., please email to them.

Sam Mabb is a list 4 judge and a dressage coach, currently undertaking her UKCC qualification, as well as pursuing a wide variety of Equine interests and a keen competitor herself.  Her training methods are very holistic looking at the horse and rider as a combination and how to get the best out of both to develop the partnership. Caroline Gibson runs the Dorking Feed Office for Mole Valley Feed Solutions supplying our South East farmers.  She has ridden since the age of 9 and competes affiliated dressage up to Advanced on her own 14 year old gelding, Albion De Fantasia.  She has represented TEAM SOUTHERN at two Inter Regionals and two Home Internationals.
