Charlotte Fry, Emile Faurie and Louise Bell secured a podium place for Great Britain in the second leg of the FEI Dressage Nations Cup™ 2021 series, held at the Stade Equestre du Grand Parc in Compiègne, France (27 – 30 May 2021).

Overnight leader, Denmark was sadly eliminated after Cathrine Dufour was unable to persuade Bohemian to enter the arena after the gelding became spooked. This left the door open for Sweden, who, already within a hair’s breadth of the leaders after the Grand Prix achieved great results in the Special and Freestyle to secure the Nations Cup leg.

Portugal, spearheaded by João Miguel Torrao and Lusitano stallion Equador, were second on the podium with Great Britain close behind in third.

Young Brit, Charlotte Fry, was once again comfortably towards the top end of the leaderboard on both days. A top-five place in the Grand Prix and top-three in the Special, with her own and Anne Van Olst’s Dark Legend (Zucchero x Tango) - pictured, led the British charge.

Olympian Emile Faurie showed good form to deliver a 70.13% Grand Prix with Theodora Livanos’s Dono Di Maggio for 14th place followed by sixth in the Special with 71.57%. Louise Bell and Into the Blue, who she co-owns with Tonya Wood, John & Alison Walton and William Wood, followed 29th in the Grand Prix with a top-ten Freestyle to help give Great Britain the edge over the fourth-placed Belgian team.

“When things like this happen in your life you enjoy every moment; Emile Faurie, Lottie Fry and myself finishing on the podium, what a wonderful show!” said Louise on Facebook.

The FEI Dressage Nations Cup™ 2021 series continues at Rotterdam CDIO in July and concludes at Aachen, Germany, in September.

Charlotte Fry also had a huge presence in the CDI3* classes, winning the Grand Prix with Anne Van Olst’s Everdale (Lord Leatherdale x Negro) just weeks after claiming the Grand Prix Special at Exloo CDI3*. A Grand Prix of 76.67% gave the British pair victory by a +3% margin from Denmark’s Cathrine Dufour and Vamos Amigos, though the top two were reversed in the Special with Dufour taking the win.

Charlotte also dominated the CDI2* winning both the Prix St Georges and Inter I with Anne Van Olst’s Don Joe (Diego x Lord Leatherdale). Charlotte and the nine-year-old stallion, on only his second international show, were awarded scores of 74.64% and 73.70% in the PSG and Inter I respectively, building on their scores at Hagen last month.

Young British competitor Jessica McConkey, who is in her first year of Young Riders, achieved ninth place in the Team Test with 68.13%, 13th in the Individual (67.84%) and 15th in the Freestyle (64.33%) with her talented Quaterback mare, Lady Gaga.
