Caroline Paterson

Chairman

Caroline started her working life in the fast moving supply sector with two global brands, FedEx UK and McDonald’s. A decade was spent with the fast food giant working her way up the position of Field Marketing Executive before moving on to FedEx as General Manager at the Leicester depot. In 2009, she took the decision to retrain and follow her passion for equestrianism. She’s now a full time coach and holder of her UKCC Level 2 qualification as well as a BD list 3a judge. Caroline has been an active member of the Scotland region committee since 2018, first joining us in the position of judges representative.

Linda Thomson

Senior training representative

Linda is passionate about dressage having competed to Inter I including at Nationals and Premier League. Linda became a riding school instructor when leaving school at 16 and is now a freelance dressage trainer.

Kerry Sutherland

Youth representative

With over 25 years in the equestrian industry Kerry is a qualified instructor with her own business, training and coaching individuals of all ages and standards, whether recreational or those looking to follow a career in the industry. Kerry took on the role as BD Youth rep in 2018 and works tirelessly to support Scotland's young riders.

Gillian Peters

Judges representative

Gillian is a Chartered Accountant, teaching at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Gillian is a List 1 judge and has been judging throughout Scotland for over 25 years. As an active committee member of Gordon Dressage Group, Gillian as previously held the roles of Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. 

Emma Douglas

Para representative

Emma has a wealth of experience, having started her para dressage journey in 2010 where she qualified for the Para Summer Championships at Hickstead and was selected for her first international as a young rider and won the under 25s.

She was a part of the first Scottish Para Dressage team to head to the Home Nations as well as on the BEF Excel Programme before being selected onto the World Class Programme. Emma represented GB at 3* level. In 2016, she was given the incredible opportunity to travel to Rio Paralympics with Paralympics GB as part of the Paralympic Inspiration Programme.

Sam Turpitt

Marketing Representative

Sam works full time as an IT project manager for the Sword IT group as well as volunteering for numerous dressage related organisations including Gordon Dressage Group, Dressage Supporters Scotland Club and British Dressage Scotland Region. Sam is based in Aberdeenshire and understands the geographical challenges of our region, regularly making the long trip south to compete in National Championships and Home Internationals.

Michael Whippey

Coaches Representative

Michael is an experienced coach in all disciplines, however, in recent years has become heavily involved with British Dressage as a coach and rider, including achieving his UKCC level 3 and beginning his studies for the UKCC level 4. 

Michael is passionate about coach development. He is dedicated to supporting coaches with their own personal development as well as encouraging their involvement with other coaches throughout the region.
