Advanced Horse Care Launched on the BD Learning Hub

We’re pleased to announce that the Advanced Horse Care Certificate, the final and highest level of the pathway, is now available for members on the BD Learning Hub.
The Advanced Horse Care module represents a significant achievement and is particularly suited to riders looking to deepen their knowledge and further their development.
The BD Horse Care programme is all about helping riders build a confident, well-rounded foundation in horse care, whatever stage they’re at. Youth riders begin with Introductory Horse Care, while Senior riders can start at Novice Horse Care, ensuring everyone begins at the level that suits them best.
Holders of the complete British Dressage Advanced Horse Care Certificate are considered to be competent and able to meet the needs of multiple horses on a small yard independently (up to 8 horses).
The online content covers a range of topics to educate and assess knowledge of learners to care for horses independently, including:
- Equine anatomy and health
- Managing horses with injury and illness
- Supporting horse health and promoting recovery
- Safe handling of horses in a range of situations
- Understanding stereotypies and behavior
- Evaluating the use of tack, equipment and training aids for advanced competition and training
- Nutrition and evaluating feeding routines for a range of situations
- Lunging horses for training and development
Introductory, Preliminary and Novice certificates focus primarily on assessing and consolidating existing knowledge and the higher tiers explore subjects in much greater depth, providing a more advanced understanding of horse care. The courses combine online learning with practical assessments to enhance the skills of all members.
To achieve the full Advanced Horse Care certificate, riders are required to complete both the online modules and the practical assessment. Horse Care tiers start from just £10 and are open to anyone looking to develop their knowledge and skills. Head to the Learning Hub to begin working through the courses.
