British riders who recently competed on mainland Europe showed promising results at Aalborg CDI, Mannheim CDI and Las Cadenas CDI, with a mix of podium placings and valuable experience gained across the U25 and Children on Horses ranks.
Aalborg CDI, Denmark (30 April – 4 May 2025)
Annabella Pidgley (pictured above) delivered two confident wins in the U25 division aboard Sarah Pidgley’s 13-year-old Vitalis gelding Vamos Amigos. The duo impressed the judges with a winning score of 71.197% in the U25 Grand Prix before returning to top the Freestyle on 77.175%, placing them at the top of the podium by a convincing margin ahead of Denmark’s Alexander Yde Helgstrand and Inspiration PF on 74.975%.
Having recently placed sixth and fifth in the CDI3* at Hagen, Annabella reflected on her progress on social media: “Vamos and I were really able to build on everything we learnt in Hagen, producing some of our best work in the competition arena. I’m so proud of how he was performing - he really trusted me inside the arena.”
She added that the gelding would now enjoy “a very well-deserved mini holiday spending time with his friends in the field.”
Mannheim CDI, Germany (30 April – 6 May 2025)
Harrison Ashton gained valuable mileage with Henri Rouste’s 10-year-old mare Million Dreams. Despite a spook on the first day, which unsettled their Intermediate II performance, the pair returned to post a much-improved 65.410% in the U25 Grand Prix.
Harrison took to social media to share his reflections on the experience, “She was badly spooked by a lady dragging a buggy across the stones - very bad timing, but that’s why she’s here, to see these things, and it’s my job to show her them. Today I gave her a steady, happy and confident round, and she performed great after her fright.”
Las Cadenas CDI, Spain (1 – 4 May 2025)
Twelve-year-old Stella McComb continued her consistent international campaign with three top-ten placings in the Children on Horses division. Riding her 16-year-old stallion Dos Alamos (Dressage Royal x Dream of Glory), she posted 70.857% in the Preliminary B and 70.144% in the Individual test, achieving two new personal bests on the international stage. Stella also achieved a solid score of 66.850% in the Team test, rounding off a promising weekend in Madrid.
