BD Presents 25: Michael Eilberg

Our next BD Presents host in the spotlight is Michael Eilberg. The super successful rider and trainer takes to Hurstbourne Equestrian in Hampshire on Saturday 1 November for BD Presents... South alongside Dan Greenwood.
Michael Eilberg will be joining Dan Greenwood at Hurstbourne Equestrian to host the southern stretch of the BD Presents Regional Roadshow on Saturday 1 November.
Michael hails from one of Britian’s great dressage dynasties; his father Ferdi Eilberg is a renowned trainer and medallist, whilst his sister Maria is also a BD great, having represented her country at Grand Prix level. In his own right, Michael Eilberg is a master of training and competition, and – as with all of his family – is one of the country’s finest convention presenters, with an outstanding ability to translate his riding skills into easy-to-understand tips, tricks and theories.
In the saddle, Michael has represented British teams on numerous occasions and has enjoyed a successful 17-year career to date. At Grand Prix level, Michael Eilberg earned team bronze at the 2013 European Championships and silver at the 2014 World Equestrian Games with the grey mare Half Moon Delphi; before adding a team silver from the 2015 European Championships to his collection, this time on his long-term dancing partner Marakov.
The Worcestershire-based rider has demonstrated his skills with young horses through the years and made his mark on the international young horse scene with BD wonder horse Woodlander Farouche. The duo made history in winning the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Dressage Horses in 2011 and 2012; this was the first time in World Breeding Championship history that a mare has claimed the titles. Michael and Farouche went on to enjoy much success together before her retirement in 2018.
In recent years, Michael has seen his horsemanship and patience rewarded, as he’s produced a host of young stars from foals to national titles. At this year’s LeMieux Nationals, he took the Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediate I Freestyle Gold title with Nicky Hannam’s MSJ Encore, whilst also enjoying top placings in three other classes. MSJ Encore is a former BD seven-year-old championship winner and is a shining example of Michael’s training, attention to detail and ability.
Regularly found coaching at clinics up and down the country, Michael is a dedicated trainer and has helped plenty of riders to success both nationally and internationally.
Michael has shared he plans to present training across the levels with the ethos of how to 'introduce, maintain and improve'. The concept will be a showcase of how riders and trainers can introduce movements, and how they can approach them with a variety horses. The day will go on to discuss beneficial exercises to practice at home to help maintain the best physique and enthusiasm, all whilst developing movements.
BD Presents... South will without doubt leave you with lots of homework and promises a fascinating discussion around training methods and how to build strong foundations.
