British Dressage is pleased to confirm changes to the 2025 Cavago Associated Championships, with a revised opportunity for Iberian and European breeds, forming an exciting new Baroque Championship category.
The Cavago Associated Championships are a colourful highlight in the British Dressage calendar, showcasing the vast range of horses and ponies taking part in dressage competition. From Clydesdales and Connemaras to ex-racehorses and veterans, the Championship collection boasts over 13 different categories for different horse breeds, and riders who qualify for veteran, Forces or side saddle opportunities.
Following a period of feedback and review, the Sport Operations team are pleased to announce developments to the series with the introduction of a Baroque Championship.
This category will welcome forward GB PRE and Lusitano horses, both of which have been a part of the Associated Championships since its conception in 2017, along with the introduction of Andalusian, Friesian, Lipizzaner, Knabstrupper and Menorquin breeds under one all-encompassing section.
Across the levels there will be title opportunities for both Full and Part-Bred horses, with classes from Preliminary to Prix St Georges.
Lou Jones, British Dressage Head of Sport, commented: “We’re excited to introduce the Baroque Championships as the latest addition to the Associated Championships collection. This new category showcases the elegance, power and heritage of Baroque breeds, celebrating those from all corners of Europe taking part in BD competition. The popularity of the Associated Championships continues to grow year on year, and we look forward to welcoming new horses and riders to the event, which provides a great opportunity for combinations to shine against their own.”
Qualification for the Cavago Associated Championships closes on Sunday 31 August. Combinations can bring forward scores recorded from 1 January 2025 onwards; all you need is three scores over 60% within the level you wish to qualify for, or two scores over 60% at Prix St Georges level. All qualifications need to be achieved in accordance with the BD rules which can be found in the Members' Handbook.
